Student Chapters

As an enhancement to student life and professional growth, various student organizations exist at Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico.

 

American Chemical Society (ACS)
The objectives of this Chapter shall be to afford an opportunity for students of a chemical science to become better acquainted, to secure the intellectual stimulation that arises from professional association, to obtain experience in preparing and presenting technical material before chemical audiences, to foster a professional spirit among the members, to instill a professional pride in the chemical sciences, and to foster an awareness of the responsibilities and challenges of the modern chemist.

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)
This student chapter was created to be able to offer an insight to students about what it means to be an aerospace engineer, and what to expect of the industry. We strive to be able to give the student real world examples of what the aerospace industry is all about and how you can be a part of it..

American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS)
The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is an independent, nonprofit, student-run organization dedicated to providing unmatched progressive programs, information, and resources on issues critical to architecture and the experience of education. The vision of the AIAS is to promote excellence in architecture education, and training; foster an appreciation of architecture, design and related disciplines; enrich communities in a spirit of collaboration; and organize students and combine their efforts to advance the art and policy of architecture..

American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) / Instituto de Ingenieros Químicos (IIQ)
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is a professional organization for chemical engineers. AIChE was established to distinguish chemical engineers as a profession independent of chemists and mechanical engineers. The student chapter tends to focus on providing networking opportunities in both academia and in industry, as well as increasing student involvement locally and nationally.

Asociación de Estudiantes Mujeres Ingenieras de Ingeniería Mecánica (AEMIM)
The Association of Women Students of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico has as mission to promote the professional and academic practice as well as the service to the community inside and outside of our institution. We seek to foster and strengthen the bonds of the student community within the field of mechanical engineering in an environment of respect and equity; in a way that provides a forum where our members grow personally and professionally. Capítulo Estudiantil del Instituto de Agrimensores (CIAPR)
The Professional College of Engineers and Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico is the professional association mandated by law that groups all engineers and land surveyors that call, present, or represent themselves as “engineers” or “land surveyors” in Puerto Rico. The quasi-public nonprofit corporation was established in order to bring together professionals with the right to practice engineering, architecture, and surveying in Puerto Rico. The primary mission of the Professional College is to promote the protection and development of engineering and surveying to promote ethics and excellence in professional practice for the benefit of referees and the people of Puerto Rico.

Cyber Castors (CC)
Cyber Castors has the goal to educate students from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico on Cyber Security related topics through technical experience. We also seek to provide awareness to the community. Activities will include but are not limited to: Student provided Technical Presentations and Demonstrations, essential computer/programming skills courses (i.e. Linux Administration, Scripting, etc.), specific computer topics courses (i.e. Network Analysis, Penetration Testing, etc.), internal and external technical challenges and competitions. Enactus Poly
Enactus is a worldwide organization that believes in investing in students who take entrepreneurial action to create a better world for us all. Here at PUPR, Enactus Poly is a multidisciplinary student organization focused on making livelihoods better in a social, economic and environmental way through the development of projects in different communities around Puerto Rico. Becoming a member in Enactus Poly will provide students an opportunity for leadership development, research, exposure and growth in a personal and professional capacity.

Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE)
The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a student design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules, whose purpose is both ensuring on-track safety (the cars are driven by the students themselves) and promoting clever problem solving.

Ink & Code Book Club (I&C)
Ink & Code is a community of students interested in learning beyond technical programming. Together the students choose the best books to expand their knowledge and intuition in the area of programming and computers and strengthen their reading habits. Also, students with similar learning interests and knowledge can share their ideas, carry out projects, and extracurricular courses.

Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international educational and scientific association of transportation professionals who are responsible for meeting mobility and safety needs. ITE facilitates the application of technology and scientific principles to research, planning, functional design, implementation, operation, policy development and management for any mode of ground transportation. Through its products and services, ITE promotes professional development of its members, supports and encourages education, stimulates research, develops public awareness programs and serves as a conduit for the exchange of professional information.

Medlife PUPR (ML)
MEDLIFE is a) non-profit organization that partners with low-income communities in Latin America and Africa to improve their access to medicine, education, and community development projects. In order to achieve the ultimate goal of a world free from the constraints of poverty, we empower students and volunteers to become advocates for change by creating on-campus Chapters, volunteering in Service Learning Trips, and supporting the Moving Mountains giving program. With this support, MEDLIFE hires and trains local staff to provide high quality 24/7/365 patient care, community development projects, and educational workshops to empower communities in need.

The Neuroengineering Associations (NEA) aims to prepare students to be professionals, through education and research, and help society to implement new knowledge and technology, through extension, in the areas of engineering and neuroscience.

PUPR Hyperloop Team
We want PUPR students to be able to organize themselves so that they can participate in competitions that the Space X company carries out. For us, the focus is to begin to design the future of ground transportation. During the development of this project, we will solve several issues to leave a solid foundation that allows the students of PUPR to be the pioneers in our country. Being a multidisciplinary project, we hope that our colleagues become the winners of the contests that SpaceX carries out. We are sure that the Hyperloop concept will be the future, since it contributes to reducing the greenhouse effect, since it does not emit gases and allows traveling long distances at high speeds.

SAE Aero Design (SAEAD)
PUPR SAE Aero Design was founded by Lourdes Tafur in August of 2009. Its purpose is to provide students an opportunity to apply their knowledge in projects that allows them to develop new skills.

SAE Baja (SAEB)
Baja SAE is an intercollegiate design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Teams of students from universities all over the world design and build small off-road cars. The cars all have engines of the same specifications. The goal in Baja SAE racing is to design, build and race off-road vehicles that can withstand the harshest elements of rough terrain.

SAE Electric Formula (SAEEF)
The SAE Electric Formula Team is committed in designing, manufacturing and testing a concept electric formula car with the purpose of competing in Formula SAE 2021. We aspire for the Electric Formula Team to be a resource for future engineering students looking for an environmental that fosters teamwork and practical engineering skills in service of creating personal growth for those involved.
