Overview
The mission of the Master in Science of Education in Science and Mathematics of the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico is to develop professionals who are highly qualified to teach mathematics and science. The Education program promotes the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills to improve the quality and effectiveness of the teaching and learning processes.
The curriculum provides the opportunity to combine the theoretical principles of pedagogy and the hands-on research process according to the area of interest. The program aims at professionals interested in improving their primary and secondary-level natural sciences and mathematics teaching skills.

The Puerto Rico Department of Education (PRDE) helps cover the cost of the master’s degree through the Title IIA program. Teachers only cover two courses, while the remaining 30 credits are covered by the PRDE. This benefit is available to both public and private school teachers, representing a significant competitive advantage.
Faculty
The program is taught by a highly qualified faculty, staffed by doctoral level experts in their respective disciplines. Members of our faculty hold doctorates in Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Curriculum and Instruction, among other related areas.
The School also has a solid academic track record in supporting and providing services to university engineering programs, allowing it to gain extensive experience in teaching STEM courses at university level. This experience is evident in the level of subject matter expertise, methodological rigor, and the alignment of the curriculum with academic and professional standards specific to the fields of science and technology.
How to apply

1. COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION
Our application is located online. Prospective applicants should indicate their preferred academic area when they inquire about admission. Candidates may apply for admission in any academic term.
Note: Non-USA citizens must submit a copy of their immigration status.
2. PAY ADMISSION FEE
All candidates pay an admission fee (non-refundable).
3. SUBMIT OFFICIAL ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT
Submit an official academic transcript directly from the university where the applicant obtained the bachelor’s degree and a Graduation Certificate that includes the graduation general grade point average to the Graduate Affairs Office.
* Students who completed their Bachelor’s degree in our Institution can skip this step, as the Graduate Affairs Office conducts it.
4. SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR PASSPORT
Submit a color copy of the birth certificate or valid passport.

Career Opportunities
The Master of Science in Education in Mathematics and Natural Sciences solves the shortage of math and science teachers in Puerto Rico and the mainland USA. The graduate program can supply the demands of highly qualified teachers in math and sciences according to the ESEA Flexibility Plan of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico. The program is directed toward currently certified teachers with degrees in non-mathematics fields and teachers with bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and natural sciences who wish to become math and/or science facilitators. In addition, directors and school superintendents who want to advance their mathematics and natural sciences knowledge can take advantage of this graduate program.
