The School of Management was founded in 1991, as an essential academic component of Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (PUPR). Building upon the heritage and accomplishments of our schools of engineering and architecture, the School of Management is dedicated to advancing business knowledge and the practical application of business principles in a global technological environment. Our faculty has created a business curriculum which emphasizes the link between business management and technology. Our curriculum is also designed to provide an interdisciplinary approach to business decision making, blending broad-based knowledge of the business functions with an emphasis in a particular discipline. We offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in several business administration fields.
The School of Management was initially created to address the need for well-trained technical managers in the industrial sectors of manufacturing and construction, which are two of the major private industry employers and economic drivers in the island. The university developed fields of study in industrial management in 1991 followed by construction management in 1994, the latter being the only one of its kind at the undergraduate level in Puerto Rico. Between 1995 and 2002 the School has gradually rounded its undergraduate offerings in the traditional business disciplines of accounting, marketing, information systems, management and finance.
At the graduate level, the School has offered since 1992 the first and only graduate program in engineering management, followed in later years by offerings in environmental management and business administration. Today, our well-rounded graduates are adequately represented in all sectors of the island’s economy, such as the public government, banking, and service industries, as well as in managing and developing their own business.
The School of Management at Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico is dedicated to providing students a well-rounded, technology-oriented management education that will empower them to become tomorrow’s socially responsible business leaders.
